Hey there! This past week at our Cumiana station has been quite lively, with a peak score of 85, which is pretty high! We had a few moments where things really picked up, with five readings soaring above 80, but there were also plenty of quieter periods in between. Overall, it's been an interesting week of Schumann Resonance activity!

Open calendarCumiana — the Piedmont observer
Cumiana captures Schumann resonance from northern Italy's Piedmont region, a quiet alpine valley shielded by the Cottian Alps.
Run by vlf.it (Renato Romero's IK1QFK home observatory), it produces a distinctive rainbow multistrip spectrogram that shows the full 0–43 Hz band — wider than most stations in our network.
The multistrip format captures not just Schumann harmonics but also sferics (distant lightning signals), giving it a unique profile during Mediterranean thunderstorm season. Visit vlf.it

Research & publicationsFrequently asked questions
How does Cumiana measure Schumann resonance?
Cumiana uses a VLF coil (Marconi multistrip) that captures 0.2–43 Hz. The output is a daily stripchart with multiple 4-hour strips stacked vertically, published at vlf.it.
Why is Cumiana important to our network?
Cumiana shows the widest frequency range in our live network (0.2–43 Hz vs the usual 3–40 Hz) and catches sferics from distant lightning, giving us a richer view of Mediterranean electromagnetic weather.
When was its last major event?
Check the Notable events section above — it lists the top 10 highest-score events at Cumiana from the last 30 days, each linked to its full daily report.
How reliable is the data?
Cumiana is run by Renato Romero (IK1QFK), a veteran VLF researcher whose work is referenced in academic literature. The station has been operating since 2008. We cross-validate readings against other network stations.
Where does the raw data come from?
Raw spectrogram images come from vlf.it (last-marconi-multistrip-slow.jpg). We download, analyze and cache them as they update. Visit vlf.it for the full feed and background on the instrumentation.
